Motion sensor light triggering inconsistent, also dims when switched off

Post by lydell.aaron »

We have a motion sensor switch that is connected to a string of two lights. The same motion sensor switched lights are connected to a wall switch.

The motion detector triggering is inconsistent, and when the light are in the OFF position, one of the lights remains dimly lit and the other light appears to turn off.

Wondering if anyone has ideas on where to begin troubleshooting. I can provide a more in-depth description if this helps.

Thanks,
Lydell

If a light remains on dimly lit when the driver is switched off, it is usually because the total LED voltage, both lights in series in this case, is too low for the boost driver.

Boost drivers need the LED voltage to be a few volts above the PDM input voltage. For example, if the battery and charger is supplying 14.4v to the PDM, the LED must be at least 18.4v. 4v over the input is good. If you have 2 3W LEDs, they are probably running around 9v each. 9v+9v=18v so just below boost minimum.

Unplug the charger and let the battery voltage drop a bit to see if dim turn off completely. Add another 9v LED to the array to get voltage up to 27v.

Inconsistent motion triggering issue: check your WP mode is 3,4,5, or 6. Will not work with mode 1,2 because they use on/off switch. When the switch is ON it reads a dead short on control signal pair so the motion sensor 7500ohm resistor is not able to be read.
