WebThings UI for EGW Gateway

The WebThings Gateway Add-On is completed and available as a standard interface. Thank you to Tim Hellhake from codecentric AG for developing and testing the driver and supporting the WebThings development. If you already have an L2-EGW1 gateway, you can buy an extra memory card and follow the instr...

Re: Whole house LumenCache install - Eastern Colorado

The LumenCache comm bus is similar to Ethernet in that all the DMs are listening to the bus and if two talk at the same time there's a collision and they need to re-try. The firmware still on the bench has a few updates and that's one at the transport layer that dramatically reduces collisions. The ...

Re: Control4 Driver/Integration

ChowMainSoft writes most of the Control4 drivers now. They said "nobody is asking for LumenCache drivers" so we just need to collectively explain the market is there for the driver. With the new MQTT interface in the EGW, there's probably lots of interfaces that will work now. I can make the JSON co...

Re: Extron Control

You can use the EGW to talk either RS485 using the bare protocol or using MQTT with JSON. I've tested some code using both just fine. The code handles the message queueing and buffering.

Re: E27, E12, G9, MR16, G4 and other standard base bulb fixtures

Big announcement: We finished testing a new driver specifically designed for DC lightbulbs. The resulting bulbs have dimming down to 0.1%! Without the giant power spikes caused by typical market bulbs that are really AC bulbs made for lower voltage DC, the new LumenCache bulbs are made specifically ...

Re: Off the Grid Hobbit Hole

What an awesome family home retreat and I'm glad you had fun reverse-engineering LumenCache 😄. For production homebuilders LC is click-click easy, but for the hackers of the world, the ability to Safely Hack The Home is a fun and exciting benefit. I hope you continue to evolve and play with the syst...

Re: Multiple HomeRun Splitters

LEDs below 24V can be connected in Series so each receives the same current. The market has settled on a few standard COB LED chip voltages so 3V, 6V, 9V, 12V, are relatively common, then the rest are usually 26-46V range. SMT LED fixtures are made from arrays of these voltages, usually 3V or 6V, an...

Re: Z Wave or Zigbee control?

There's new Tuya.com modules coming this Spring. The first one is a plug in module at the top Comm bus like the EGW that works like the EGW. Another will be like an L2-APR-12W with the Tuya.com Wifi +BT built in. Then just plug in a Tuya gateway and have all the Z-Wave and Zigbee integration.

Re: Wiring from switch to light

You sure can. The L3-WK-D switches and L3-TP Touchpad switches have 2 RJ45 already. Just plug PDM wire into one and the light into the other side. Does not matter which RJ45, they are the same.

Re: Product specifications, Introduction Documents, and Part Numbers

Thanks for the detailed analysis. For items 1&2, I'll confirm the docs. There's a new, and hopefully final, firmware update coming shortly that adds a few features. I'll post the documentation for it before the firmware is released. It's difficult to use all the IDs unless you have lots of CH16 and ...

Re: Using MQTT-Node-Red to communicate with LumenCache

Ken, this is awesome! Seems the UI just needs a little tweaking to get the button management settings and scenes manageable. Note: we're selling a version of the EGW1 as a DIY model without any locked software. It may include the basic communication bus management and API so the heavy protocol activ...

Reducing EM and RF radiation and LED PWM

A few people have installed LC to reduce RF noise from AC wires and dimmers. Or just the buzzing noise. Also the how the stroboscopic effect affects our eyes and brains causing eyestrain and fatigue. There's a new driver called the L2-CCUA100 that is Analog dimmed !  Zero flicker!   Great for photog...

Making this part of the building allows economies of scale and maintenance that are also solved by th...

Re: Whole house LumenCache install - Eastern Colorado

With the new L2-CC drivers, the silver 48-24V DC/DC are not needed. The L2-CCB were slightly more efficient but the Boost topology of the CCB is not as flexible as the boost/buck of the new CC drivers. The CCU are buck drivers with 95% efficiency. Ideal for 48V solar battery supply. The new socket b...

Re: Extending from the L2-PDM via 25 pair cables

I did the math on the temperature increase in the cable and it's ok with 300mA CC loads but not good for above that. For that reason I would like to say it's not recommended to use 25pair cable at this time. The beauty of LC is we can have new transmission tech in future modules, but we should wire ...

Re: Brian North Introduction

The Iota chargers did the same. They needed a crowbar circuit and could get stuck on current overload for a split second, then shut down, then trip, etc, thousands of times per second. Resulting in 1-2V and crushing current :-D. The Meanwell HEP-600 and 1000 are awesome. No fans too! Advanced motion...

Re: Whole House LumenCache Lighting System - SouthWest Ohio

Great photos. I like how just the small PV array gives you plenty of power for lights and mobile phone charging. Plus the total cost must be far less than an AC Grid connected array and all the permit fees etc. I've heard PV soft costs are 20-30% of a typical project
